Porcelain Veneers in Islington

Ultra-Thin, Minimal-Prep Veneers — Crafted to Be Completely Undetectable

charles landau logo

Porcelain veneers have an unfair reputation — built on the heavily drilled, bright-white "done" smiles you've seen elsewhere.

Done properly, they are something else entirely: wafer-thin layers of hand-crafted porcelain, designed around your face and bonded to your teeth with as little preparation as possible — often barely any at all — producing smiles of exceptional beauty that nobody would ever identify as veneers.

At Charles Landau Dentistry in Islington, Dr Nick Weir provides porcelain veneers the way his prosthodontic training demands: minimally, precisely, and with your natural enamel treated as the precious commodity it is.

Minimal-Prep Veneers: Maximum Beauty, Minimum Intervention

The old way of providing veneers involved drilling teeth down substantially before covering them. In many practices, it still does.

Dr Weir's approach is deliberately, extremely conservative:

As thin as porcelain allows

Modern porcelain can be crafted to a fraction of a millimetre — often about the thickness of a contact lens — while remaining strong and beautifully lifelike.

As little preparation as possible

Many cases need only the lightest surface refinement; some need virtually none at all. Where preparation is required, it is measured in fractions of a millimetre, planned digitally in advance, and kept within the enamel — preserving the strength, health and future options of your natural teeth.

Alignment first where it helps

Where teeth are crooked, moving them first with Invisalign means the veneers themselves can be thinner and the preparation even more minimal. It's the same philosophy that runs through everything we do: the best result with the least intervention.

If you've been told elsewhere that your teeth need to be "shaved down" for veneers, it is worth a second opinion — modern minimal-prep techniques have changed what's possible.

Veneers Are Prosthodontics — And That's Dr Weir's Field

Postgraduate Diploma in Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry dedicated to the form, function and appearance of teeth — and porcelain veneers sit at its very heart. Dr Weir's postgraduate training means your veneers are designed as a complete system: the shape and proportion of each tooth planned around your face and lips, and the way your teeth meet and function engineered so the porcelain is protected by your bite rather than punished by it. That is what makes veneers last.

Partnership with master ceramists

Each veneer is individually hand-crafted in porcelain by a highly skilled ceramist working to Dr Weir's detailed prescription — photographs, shade mapping and precise specifications for translucency, texture and character. The result is porcelain with the depth and light of natural enamel, not a flat white shell.

The undetectable philosophy

Exactly as with our composite bonding , every veneer case is judged against one standard: would a stranger ever guess? Natural gradients, translucent edges, proportions that suit your age and character — never the piano-key look.

Design before treatment

Your finished smile is planned digitally before anything begins, and in most cases you can preview the design as a "trial smile" in your own mouth — seeing and approving the result before a single tooth is touched.

When are Veneers the Right Choice?

Porcelain veneers come into their own where:

In almost every case that means:

  • Teeth are deeply discoloured beyond what whitening can correct
  • Larger changes in tooth shape or proportion are wanted
  • Teeth are heavily worn, chipped or have extensive old fillings
  • Exceptional long-term stain resistance matters to you ✓ You want the unmatched depth, translucency and longevity of porcelain

For smaller refinements — chips, edges, minor gaps — composite bonding with no drilling at all is often the better first choice. Dr Weir provides both, and will always recommend whichever achieves your goal with the least intervention. Many smile makeovers combine the two.

Your Veneers Journey

1

Step 1

Consultation & Smile Analysis An unhurried consultation with Dr Nick Weir: your goals, photographs, a digital scan and a detailed analysis of your smile, face and bite — including an honest discussion of whether veneers, bonding or a combination will serve you best.

2

Step 2

Digital Smile Design & Trial Smile Your new smile is designed digitally, then previewed as a trial smile over your own teeth. You see it, refine it and approve it before anything begins.

3

Step 3

Minimal Preparation Guided by the approved design, any preparation is kept to the absolute minimum — often just fractions of a millimetre, and in some cases virtually none. Beautiful temporary veneers let you "live with" the design.

4

Step 4

Hand-Crafted Porcelain Your master ceramist crafts each veneer individually to Dr Weir's prescription — shade-mapped, characterised and textured to match your natural teeth.

5

Step 5

The Fit & Reveal Each veneer is precisely bonded, the bite fine-tuned, and final photographs taken. The result: a smile that is unmistakably yours — just perfected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do veneers ruin your natural teeth?

Do veneers ruin your natural teeth?

This fear comes from old-fashioned techniques where teeth were heavily drilled down. Dr Weir's minimal-prep approach is entirely different: preparation is kept to fractions of a millimetre within the enamel — and some cases need virtually none at all. Your natural teeth remain strong, healthy and protected underneath.

Will my veneers look fake?

Will my veneers look fake?

Not here. Every case is hand-crafted with natural gradients, translucency and texture, in proportions designed for your face and age. Dr Weir's standard is simple: nobody should be able to tell.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Typically ten to fifteen years, and often considerably longer with good care — porcelain is exceptionally strong and stain-resistant. Because Dr Weir engineers every case around your bite, your veneers are protected by the way your teeth function, which is the single biggest factor in how long they last.

How many veneers will I need?

How many veneers will I need?

Sometimes just one or two, blended invisibly with your natural teeth; sometimes a fuller design. The digital smile design stage answers this precisely — and Dr Weir will never recommend more veneers than your smile actually needs.

Veneers or composite bonding — which should I choose?

Veneers or composite bonding — which should I choose?

Both are excellent, and we provide both. Bonding is additive, drill-free and ideal for smaller refinements; porcelain offers unmatched strength, stain resistance and depth for larger transformations. Many patients benefit from a combination. Your consultation will give you a clear, honest recommendation — based on what achieves your goal with the least intervention.
