Our Story-Redesign : Charles Landau Dental Surgery

Charles Landau established Charles Landau Dentistry in 1973. He and the practice have continued to offer the local community excellent dental care for over 50 years.

Maxine O’Grady was the first associate to join the practice, she worked for Charles Landau Dentistry for over 30 years and retired in 2014.

In 2013 the practice relocated from the Precinct to 6 Prebend Street as part of the Packington regeneration. We are delighted with the design of the new premises and were noted in Private Dentistry for our interior design.

Ben Lauffer joined the practice in 2013. At the age of 14, Ben completed work experience with Charles and since joining is now the principal dentist of Charles Landau Dentistry. Ben has continued to work with Charles to ensure the level of service and commitment to the community has continued. Since 2013 the practice has continued to grow.

Sophie Goodman joined in 2015 and Nick Weir in 2018.

As we grow, we remain completely focused on delivering high quality dental care based on clinical needs and clinical excellence for the local community.

Karen, our Practice manager and Grace, our head receptionist, have been with the practice for over 30 years. They are both central to the level of care we are able to provide and support our growing team. With this continuity we are proud of knowing many generations of our patients.

We are proud of our outreach projects and have been conducting open days, visits to nurseries and care homes in the local community since 1991, delivering Oral Health messages for National Smile Month and Mouth cancer action month. We are also supporters of local charities and foodbanks.

As recognition of the level of care we provide we are Gold Level members of the British Dental Association Good Practice Scheme and in 2021 recognised as a notable practice by Care Quality Commission.

We are currently in the process of expanding and adding two further surgeries so that we can continue to look after more of the local community for years to come and stay committed to clinical excellence, community and sustainability.

We were awarded for our access for patients by the NHS.
We have been recognised as a Disability Champion Practice by iADH and Oral B. We are also Dementia Friends.

We are fortunate to be wheelchair accessible, we have hearing Loops, can arrange BSL interpreters and translation services.

We speak several languages at the practice including Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Spanish, Romanian and Somali.

NHS Dental Care

We are proud to have provided NHS dental care for over 50 years, but we do have limited capacity. We are dedicated to our National Health Service and are determined and committed to continuing this service.

NHS Access Guidelines

To maintain your NHS access at Charles Landau Dentistry, it is important to follow these essential guidelines:

Attend your scheduled appointments or cancel with sufficient notice (at least 24 hours prior).
Ensure no more than 2 years pass between appointments to retain your place on our NHS patient list.

Attendance and Cancellations

Missed Appointments

If you miss an appointment, it will be recorded. If this happens a second time, we will ask you to find another practice for your dental needs. However, if you attend your next appointment after a missed one, we will do our best to accommodate your preferred schedule for future visits. Missing two appointments, whether consecutive or not, may result in removal from our NHS patient list in accordance with NHS regulations.

Protecting Your NHS Access

Many patients forget to schedule regular dental examinations, which can lead to a lapse in their NHS access. We make every effort to remind patients via email when they are due for a check-up. However, if we cannot contact you due to outdated details, you risk missing vital reminders.

To stay on our NHS patient list:

Attend all scheduled appointments or cancel at least 24 hours in advance.
Book your next dental exam before leaving the practice, whether it is 3, 6, or 12 months in advance. Our reception team will gladly assist and send timely reminders.
Update your contact details regularly, including your email address, phone number, physical address, and any exemption statuses.

To provide optimal care and reduce waiting times for all patients, please inform us in advance if you are unable to attend or are running late. Missed appointments cannot be charged for under NHS regulations, but failing to attend may lead to losing your NHS registration. Patients arriving more than 10 minutes late may not be seen and the visit will be recorded as missed.

We operate under a limited NHS contract and capacity. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain this service for years to come.

Moving forward, we remain committed to continuing our partnerships and actively supporting charitable initiatives that align with our mission of improving oral health for all.

We have donated to local food banks to contribute and give back to the local community Outreach programmes.
Over the years we have developed experience in all aspects of dental care but in certain cases we may have to refer our patients to colleagues or hospitals who have the specialist skills. We work with Simon Stern, Reena Wadia to name but a few and who are specialists at the top of their fields.
We have delivered Oral Health sessions and open days for several local nurseries and old people care homes for National Smile Month and Mouth cancer Action Month.
We work with fantastic dental laboratories Swift, PK Invisalign and Aion who design and create excellent crowns bridges aligners etc.
Our suppliers are the most reputable in the dental industry such as Henry Schein and CTS and we use the best materials.
We work with reputable service companies such as SPS, Apollo and W&H.
Our most important partners are our patient's, and we endeavour to continually work with them throughout the patient journey.
