The Examination

The dental check up is when a thorough and comprehensive examination of your mouth takes place with one of our highly skilled dentists.

After we discuss the condition of your general health and medical history, we will start the examination by assessing the extra-oral areas of your mouth, as well as your head and neck - these are the lymph nodes, joints, the saliva glands, muscles and tips - looking for any abnormal or cancerous conditions.

We will then check all the soft tissues areas of your mouth - inside of your lips, tongue, inside of the cheeks, that palate, again, checking for any abnormal conditions.

After this, a screening of your periodontal health takes place - this is where we look at the state of your gums. Minor cases of gum disease may mean some treatment from our hygienist to have a full mouth scale and polish. More severe cases of gum disease will be referred to our gum specialist.

The last part of the examination are where you teeth are checked for any decay, fractures, defective fillings and any unsightly restorations. Small digital x-rays are taken to gain a full view of your mouth, even the hidden areas where there could be decay occurring between or inside your teeth. These x-rays also show the supporting bone level in your jaw, to detect any sign of advanced periodontal disease or infections
